Questions & Answers Advice for Hiring a Photographer
Question 1: What do you love about being a photographer?
Capturing a moment in time that will last a lifetime!
Question 2: What are your favorite things to photograph?
I have a wide variety of things and people that I like to photograph. If I had to choose, it would be people, animals and nature in that order.
* High school seniors are my favorite to photograph. They're excited about their senior portraits and their family looks forward to having this keepsake forever.
* Families on the beach would be my next choice. To be able to capture that single moment in time for families to hold onto forever is so rewarding!
Question 3: What is your style of photography: Light & Airy, Realism, or Dark & Moody?
My style tends to be realism, but I can adjust my photo shoots to reflect the circumstances – for example, beach photos would be light & airy (if taken during the day) and woodsy settings may be realism to dark & moody. Capturing light is what photography is based on, so the light is going to determine the mood of the photographs.
Question 4: Do you work with a contract?
Yes! It’s important to make sure you hire a photographer with a contract. It spells out what is expected of your photographer, and what your photographer expects from the client. It protects both the client and the photographer, so communication is clear. This is vital for a great photography experience. * The only (few) times I have not worked with a contract is if I am volunteering a photo shoot for charity.
This may change in the future so that expectations are met on both sides.
Question 5: Is a model release required?
Yes, it is. I have this built into the contract. If you were interested in hiring me, the first thing you’re going to want to see are some examples of my work. Without a model release, I wouldn’t be able to post on my business website or social media to show my work. A model release is imperative!
Question 6: Will you help style and pose for the photography session?
Of course! Most people who want family photos to have never done this before. They want beautiful photographs to remember the moment, vacation, special occasion and it needs to be something that they’re proud to hang on their walls. A list of suggestions and guidelines are sent to the client to help determine what to wear, how to style a photo shoot and what to bring for props (if the client so desires).
Question 7: And most importantly, are you licensed and insured?
ABSOLUTELY! I would never hire a photographer who isn’t! Asking this question helps you determine if the business is registered with the state. This protects the client from having a claim brought against them in the event of equipment being damaged during the photo shoot. If the photographer is not licensed and insured, you may want to thank them for their time and move on to another photographer who is.
